This
day was dedicated to Vatican. I bought tickets on the web earlier (again - it was great thought)
so we had to reach meeting place near Vatican Museum. It turned out it was not good
idea to visit The Vatican Museum in May – crowds of people were everywhere. We spend 4
hours in The Vatican Museum and in The Basilica of St Peter – definitely these places
are worth seeing, but May, June, July and August are not the best time to do it. Our
guide told us, that in high season in the Vatican is about 17 thousand tourists per
day – wow, it is not perfect time to visit these beautiful places – the Vatican
Museum, the Sistine Chapel and the Basilica of St Peter.
After
four hours we had spent in Vatican we ran away to Piazza del Popolo and we found restaurant on one
of the streets near square. We ate very good lunch and went into direction of
Villa Borghese and we spent nice time in Rome’s most famous park. We hadn’t tickets and tome to
visit Museo e Galleria Borghese – which is one of the city’s best art
galleries, housing the “queen of all private art collection” – Caravaggio,
Bernini, Boticelli and Raphael. The collection was formed by Cardinal Scipione
Borghese, after whom the museum is
named.
Next was long stroll to Piazza Barberini to
see Fontana delle Api (Fountain of the Bees). It is a small fountain, that was
constructed in the year 1644, in honor of Pope Urban VIII Barberini. The large bees that characterize the
fountain are there because the bee was the symbol of the Barberini family.
